Although his behavior was eventually discovered, the family allowed Mané to pursue his passion for football on the condition that he first graduate.
In this way, Mané’s family granted him permission to play football, understanding his dreams and aspirations. They supported him while emphasizing the importance of education, requiring him to complete his studies before fully dedicating himself to his football career.
In 2009, Mane participated in the regional championships in Mbour, which was 80 kilometers away from Dakar. He was then invited to a trial with hundreds of other kids. Despite having rickety shoes and shabby shorts, Mane caught the attention of Abbou Diatta, a veteran scout from the Generation Foot Academy. Diatta initially hesitated because Mane was too quiet, but eventually agreed to let him into the academy.
